The Woodlands is a master-planned community and census-designated place in the U.S. state of Texas located mostly within Montgomery County, with parts extending into Harris County. Originally purchased by the Rouse Company, it was developed from the early 1960s to the late 1990s as a planned community that would include a number of residential villages along with commercial and recreational areas.
The Woodlands History
In 1994 The Woodlands was named “Best Planned Community” in the United States by readers of “Money” magazine. The Woodlands is a part of the Greater Houston Texas area and is located at (30.218, -95.567). It lies approximately north of Houston and south of Conroe.
The Woodlands is made up of many villages, each with its own style and architecture. The community covers a total area. It includes the following subdivisions: In October 2011, “Money” magazine ranked The Woodlands as the seventh-best place to live in the United States. In July 2012 it was ranked as the “best affordable suburb in Texas” by “Forbes”.
